Welcome to Hilliard Optimist Youth Lacrosse

The mission of Hilliard Optimist Youth Lacrosse is to develop athletic and academic skills through sports participation and academic competition, which strengthen inner core values and principles, encourage abilities in leadership, fair play and teamwork, and provide fun, rewarding and memorable growing experiences.

                                            REGISTRATIONS FOR SPRING 2018 WILL OPEN NOVEMBER 1ST

If you are lucky enough to have a child that expresses interest in playing lacrosse, you can look forward to a lot of things. There are a number of benefits to playing the sport that can make a world of difference for the average youngster. From improved mental acuity, increased fitness, socialization and team building, lacrosse is the perfect sport for kids to play – and it is fun to watch for parents as well.

The Hilliard Optimist Club is now forming boys and girls teams at each of the following divisions. Season runs from March - May:

Lax Minis (1-2 grade) - clinic based program that meets every Sunday at noon for an hour through the season.
Juniors (3-4 grade) – practice one to two times per week with games (typically double headers) on Sundays.
Seniors (5-6 grade) – practice two to three times per week with games (typically double headers) on Sundays.

Registration fee includes game jersey and use of a helmet (boys) or goggles (girls), and a mouthpiece. Player to provide lacrosse stick (boys and girls) and pads for boys (shoulder, elbow, gloves).

All coaches have passed a background screening and have certifications for Coaching Youth Sports, Lacrosse, Concussion through National Association of Youth Sports and are members of the National Youth Sports Coaches Association. 

The Ohio Machine is proud to announce that Hilliard Optimist Youth Lacrosse will participate in the newly organized Central Ohio Youth Lacrosse League or COYLL.  The Ohio Machine will be dedicated to helping foster a certain level of quality in all phases of community recreational lacrosse programming under the COYLL operations.  The Ohio Machine sees this as a great opportunity to give back to the most crucial age group in determining future quality of play.

We saw fantastic improvement in the skill level of all players at all levels. It’s very important that your son spends time working on his stick work.  It is important that players are confident in their stick skills and putting in the extra effort will absolutely make a difference.   Even taking 10 minutes a day all summer long will show exponential results. 

This is a basic program.  Use a throwback or a wall.

50 Right Handed, 50 Left Handed,

25 Cross Handed Right,?

25 Cross Handed Left

50 Total Switching hands- Catch right –move stick across the front of your body, throw left. Then Catch left, move stick across the front o your body and throw right Repeat to 50

FOR MORE ADVANCED PLAYERS INCORPORATE: 20 1 handed right, 20 1 handed left (Hold the one hand directly in the middle of the stick)
