A message to the Hilliard Community (video Link)

Dear Optimist Families,

I’m Deryck Richardson, President of your Hilliard Optimist Club.  2020 has certainly been a bizarre year and has really impacted our community in ways we may have never imagined.  The Hilliard Optimist Club has been serving Hilliard, on a volunteer basis for over 60 years and will continue to provide affordable outlets for our youth.  Not only do we offer Tackle Football, Flag Football, Cheerleading, Basketball, Lacrosse, and Volleyball, but the Optimist Club also holds yearly essay and oratorical contests, and host a Youth Appreciation Dinner each Spring..  The Hilliard Optimist program also gives $30,000 dollars in scholarships to seniors within Hilliard every year as well. 

Most of our work is done behind the scenes and we depend on volunteers to help all of our programs run smoothly.  Rarely do we come to the community for help.  2020, however, is a very rare year.  

Before Covid hit, the Optimist Club took on the challenge of restoring historic Scioto Darby Field.  Many of your children have played on this field throughout the years and often community members are spotted, just stopping by to watch a game or two.  This project was no small task for the Optimist Club and we are proud that we chose to handle the restoration project.

Almost as soon as we started the Scioto Darby project, we were forced to cancel our Lacrosse season and refund registration fees.  Our Fall Programs never got off the ground, and we haven’t touched a dime of revenue all year.  We are asking you for help.  As a 501 C-3, any donation to The Hilliard Optimist Club is tax deductible.  There is no contribution amount that is too small, and there certainly is no contribution amount that is too big.  Checks can be made out to Hilliard Optimist Youth Sports PO Box 113 Hilliard, Ohio 43026.
